Have You Listened To Them Yet?: [5th – 23rd Oct 2014]

Disclaimer: All posts are just containing my OPINION. I don’t mean to offend. I mean to give only my honest feedback. Also, I do not listen to every song, although I try to. (I might have missed them or the site may not have posted on it. The ‘Discovered’ section exists for this reason.)

By the way, this link here is for those who wish to look at (almost) every song that came out in each week. Since I don’t like EVERY song that comes out, I thought the Soompi tag should reflect a better picture of the releases. 😀 Two other links here may help too: LINK #1 , LINK #2

Mann, the start of October is already this exciting with Epik High, Gaeko and Ha Dong Qn’s comebacks! Joining in are Roy Kim, Younha, Gummy, Lena Park, Suju, G.O.D & Crucial Star (well, he’s from C-JeS Ent…) from the mainstream side and Suki, Loptimist, 20 Years of Age and Urbanspace from the Indie/Underground counterpart. And even though this isn’t the finest time to debut, super rookies Bernard Park, Purfles & Almeng held their own in the face of such competition. 🙂

Epik High produces a masterpiece of an album in <Shoebox>, showing that the trio are capable of both sentimental and dope Hip-Hop. Moreover, Epik High deserves praise for hand-picking the right vocalists and rappers. As for the album, I can’t pick a favourite –  because every track was just GENIUS. If you need an introduction to the trio’s album, here you go: Raise The Curtain (Mid-tempo Hip-Hop Soul), ‘Happen Ending’ (ft Rollercoaster’s husky, deep vocalist Jo Wan Seon – mid-tempo Hip-Hop Rap Ballad; the 70s-influenced beats are so nostalgic/bittersweet.), ‘Rich’ (ft Big Bang’s Tae Yang – Urban mid-tempo Hip-Hop), ‘Spoiler’ (melancholic low-tempo Hip-Hop Ballad; lyrics were impressive – love the link between the title and breakups | Kim Ji Su looks like a cross between Clara and Yewon – pretty!..And that 95er(!!!) male model Kim Kibum >.<), ‘Burj Khalifa’ (ft Yankee, DD’s Gaeko – Urban Underground Hip-Hop Dance), ‘Fighting Again’( ft Younha – mid-tempo Hip-Hop Rap Ballad – will Younha do another remake? Hahahaha; the resignation in Younha’s voice makes her a good candidate for such blue tracks..), ‘Amor Fati’ (ft Nell’s Kim Jong Wan – mid-tempo Hip-Hop Ballad; oh this is just so raw & beautifully intense), ‘Born Hater’ (Mid-tempo Electronic Hip-Hop Rap featuring a rap line-up of Beenzino, Verbal Jint, Mino, Bobby and B.I; liked how they each had their own vent session with their rhyme time. …And with the standard dose of curses – what else? – but they ended it adorably with a ‘nono’…so I’ll forgive them for B.I’s sake 😛 ..and on Verbal Jint’s account – cos he seemed so awkwardly endearing in the MV. And that was icky Tablo – I’m a born hater of roaches. >.<) , Click title to read more comfortably or click to continue

From this post onwards, my source should permanently be from Soompi.

1. Soloist Sameul Seo sings, raps and produces(!!!) in his English-Korean debut(?) hip-hop album ‘Welcome To My Zone’ (His songs are extremely hard to find prior to this post.). He makes me think of One Ok Rock with his smooth transition between the two languages. Overall, I found myself liking the singing parts of his songs most of the time. 😛 Title track ‘The Pink Room(feat 2Tak)’ is a laid-back hip-hop song. It has this classy sound to it that’s pretty addicting. 🙂 ‘Enough Said’ reminds me of E-Sens ‘Poison’ because both have this contemplative, poignant vibe. ‘Die For Today’ is a beautiful ballad. I didn’t really like the rap but I thoroughly enjoyed the singing parts. ‘Everyday’s The Same(featuring Jin Sol)’ is more the typical kind of hip-hop song listeners are used to, especially with respect to the rap. ‘White Noise’ has nice offbeat…beats (heh) that goes well with the lazy(?) singing. This time, the rap is just nice. 😀 ‘The Hall (feat Jayho) [interlude]’ is nothing really special but the singing parts are my favourite. Heh. I think ’11PM Birthday(feat Qim Isle)’ is not too bad IMO. ‘Aqua(feat Nucksal)’ is definitely not mainstream music. There isn’t a certain melody structure to ‘get into’ easily, so it does take effort to like, me included. Also, the quotes in the song are interesting. ‘With No Exit(feat #WM)’ is a sexy Hip-hop RnB track. Really love it.  Click title to read more comfortably or click to continue

I had a pretty hard time for this post, thinking about where I should put the songs, particularly ballads. I personally think ballads are good but when there are too many of the same kind, I get really biased. D:

Songs I Like and Would Like to Recommend

1.Shin Seung Hun‘s 90’s soothing, high-pitched vocals and his fall album go very well together such that the ballads (most of the tracks are) don’t sound too stale next to each other. Strangely enough, all of the ballads are my favourites of the album – ‘I’ve Changed A Lot (feat Choiza)‘ , ‘Sorry’ (The piano instrumental is darkly charming and hypnotising.), ‘You’, ‘My Melody’, ‘Butterfly Effect’, ‘Love Fool’ , ‘Turn On The Radio’. . I did like ‘I Hope (feat Ra.D)’ too, which is a remix of the original (?I remember hearing this song before…). Ra.D’s unique singing complimented the veteran singer and the way the song was remixed.
